The tavern 'Zum weißen Schwan' is closely intertwined with the history of Weimar itself, the one of Hotel Elephant and the one of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Swan, how locals lovingly nicknamed it, is only a few minutes' walk from Hotel Elephant. As Goethe once mentioned in a letter of 1827: "The swan welcomes everyone warmly and with open wings". Nothing has changed since then, and 'The Swan' still is the perfect place to savour the best of original Thuringian specialties.
Quaint, interesting, homely, simply typical Weimar. And there is also great food with friendly service.
Friendly, very attentive service. Goulash and ox cheeks delicious ??. Going to the toilet is also a "must" so that you don't miss the beautiful sayings Spr.
Good and friendly service. Cozy restaurant that invites you to linger even after dinner. Home-style cooking at already high prices - which is probably due to the tourist interest in this small town. But: to be recommended.
The service was very friendly and the food delicious, especially the dessert (see photo). What we didn't like so much that in times of Corona all tables were occupied regardless of the required distances.
These are toilet sayings of a completely different kind. The food was very good and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The recommendation is the dish baked with dumplings and egg!
Outside very good service, the food was also very good and hearty. Thuringian sausages, roulade with Thuringian dumplings and red cabbage Inside, hectic and very unfriendly ???
We stopped here on June 20th and were brought to a table outside by a friendly service. I had a schnitzel with fried potatoes that tasted really good. For dessert there was a small cake platter, which you could ask for an offer from the service. All in all, it was a relaxed and enjoyable visit. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful, you didn't have to wait long for the food and the price-performance ratio was also good. I can recommend a visit here.
We ate there in the evening, in early October. The menu is traditionally German. I ate goulash with Thuringian dumplings. My wife beef roulades. The food was excellent. The service is friendly. Apparently it is the oldest restaurant in Weimar. Goethe, Cranach and Bach ate there alongside a number of important personalities. The interior is traditional and very cozy.
The restaurant with outdoor seating is nicely located in the old town of Weimar within sight of the Goethe House, the food tastes good and the prices are in the middle range. The staff is friendly
Great location and nice and fast service. But we waited an hour for our food. The food was great, but could have been more red cabbage ?
On our way to Brandenburg, we stopped in Weimar, strolled through the city and (unfortunately) ate in this restaurant. About 10 minutes after we sat down, a waitress came up with the question: What do we want to drink? A GOOD DAY WAS NOT INCLUDED! We received the menu and ordered: 1x Wiener Schnitzel (19.90 €) and 1x Rumpsteak (24.90 €), 1x 0.4 Paulaner (4.30 €) and 1x 0.2 Pinot Blanc (6.90 €) . From the moment we got the drinks, we had to wait exactly 48 minutes for the food to arrive. The schnitzel was too oily, the side dish consisted of chopped vegetables (without dressing) and the rump steak (lukewarm and well done) was at least 1/3 of fat with rind! As cutlery, fork and normal knife. When I asked about a steak knife, I got a bored answer: "Didn't get a knife?" ... Conclusion? ... 1 star for the food and 1 star for the service!
The food was very tasty. If we go to Weimar again, the restaurant will be ours be your first choice.
Solid. Civil. Hearty. Central. Fulfillment. Can be increased.
Well, service was quick, but that's about it. The shop isn't really great. Even orders are sometimes misunderstood, that is ... nothing comes of it. No recommendation.
Very pleasant eatery. Prices normal Specialties from Thuringia Staff very nice The dishes are beautifully and appetizingly arranged on the plate. Schiller and Goethe were regulars here, as were other celebrities. I am happy to recommend it
Everything is right here. The food was delicious and the service friendly. You can sit outside as well as inside very nicely. It's quaint and cozy.
Just amazing ♥️ The food was delicious, waiters friendly and the ambiance stunning. I fell in love with the paintings of Weimar by Richard Starcke.
Despite being busy, the waiters were very friendly, attentive and quick. The food was amazing and so we had to order a dessert. Here one likes to become a repeat offender
We had the Thuringian bratwurst and the cook had made an effort, but the mustard was missing and we thought that must be the case in this restaurant. When we were done, we asked the waitress if this is actually the norm and she pointed to the mustard pot next to the counter. Why didn't she bring it to us to eat? Reply of this conceited, snooty waitress: "Now you're done", which sounded like: I don't care! So she just didn't feel like it. Never again this place !!
The "Wiener Schnitzel" is really excellent and above all original from the veal. We experienced excellent cuisine that is worth the price! (Wiener Schnitzel = 19.90 €) There wasn't even a surcharge for the desired replacement of the fried potatoes with Thuringian dumplings. The portions are pleasant.
Thanks to the staff ... We had little time (45min) and still set up our tour on time ... Perfect service ... Now for the small drawback. The pricing is certainly due to the location. But ... if we order a salad for 15 € ... Can't the plate be filled? Half a portion for 15 € as a salad is fat I have to say ... Otherwise ... Your sauces are perfect, also in combination with "home-made dishes". (Jellied meat with fried potatoes ?) Perfect and again, thanks ...
Very good!
This restaurant is right next to the Goethe city house. It offers decent local dishes. E.g. Rollades and "Klöse".
Cosy. Friendly. Great food.
Great and historic location. The staff is super friendly and does a great job. The food came a bit late but was delicious. They have typical Thuringa dishes and offer other choices as well. All in all a great place to spend an evening.⁸
If you like to wait to order drinks or food go here: terrible
This was one of the places recommended by our guide. Right in the centre of town. Friendly staff. My family (we were 6 adults), think what they had was good but my sauerbraten was rather bland. Kitchen closes early.
